Belated Happy New Year!
Posted by Claire on 28th Jan 2020
So as the first month of the year, draws to a close, I've finally got around to writing about what things have been happening!
We had a complete break over Christmas & New Year, with both the physical & online shop closed & not an email was checked!! Well, maybe a few looks at Instagram & Facebook ;)
It was time to look at my own sewing projects, especially those unfinished ones (WIPS)!!!
So I graded them into:
A Missing items needed to finish them e.g. My Waver Coat & Travel Skirt, both without matching buttons!
B Got bored/had a falling out with items e.g. Calyer Pants, bargain towels to trim
C Materials I had prepped, but not started e.g. Braided Rug fabric balls, which hit me on the head, everytime I open a cupboard door!!
D The growing number of unused PDF patterns on my laptop!!!
E Similarly, the amount of sewing pattern books, unused! Especially the lingerie ones...
And that's all before I looked at my fabric stash!!! There's never quite the right pattern/fabric or right amount of fabric to go with a particular pattern, is there?
So, I started with Group B
Hurrah, I like them as much as I'd hoped!! They are being worn lots & roll on summer, when flip flops are back on!
They're the Calyer Pants from French Navy patterns:
Calyer Pants click here to go to the pattern!
Next, I was getting bored of this bundle of 50p plain IKEA towels, we'd scooped up a couple of months ago...!
So after adding cotton lace to both ends, they have disappeared to Izzy's students flat!
Then to the annoying pile of escaping fabrics balls, made from a king size Viyella duvet cover. I spent a day cutting the whole cover in 1" strips & rolling them in balls, about 4 years ago! My intention was always to make a braid rug, but I'd never found a 3rd fabric to go with the two different checks. So I thought I'd just go with the two checks & see what it looked like:
Well, the two checks were enough to give an interesting pattern and alternating them, meant you didn't have a block of solid colour.
So I don't get bored of the plaiting, I do a few metres & then head to the sewing machine, to stitch it on. I've discovered it's easier to do standing up & weighed down by my pestle & mortar. Finding a big enough area to keep it flat is the trickiest bit.
It's still going & I've had to move my sewing machine to the dining table, to accommodate the growing rug! I'm so pleased with it, but still have a few balls of fabric strips to use up & still no idea where I'm going to put it!!!
At least Groups B & C have been cleared, just the others to sort out now!
Happy Sewing...xx
